LipiFlow® is designed to target and unblock obstructed meibomian glands in the eyelids from the inside and outside so those glands can secrete more oily lipids called meibum onto the eye. By restoring the proper function of these glands, more balanced tears will be produced.
Meibum plays a crucial role in preventing tears from evaporating too quickly on an eye. LipiFlow® helps restore and maintain the stability of the tear film, reducing or even eliminating the need for frequent use of artificial tears or lubricating eye drops.
A LipiFlow® treatment can provide significant relief from dry eye symptoms, including dryness, burning, itching, redness, and discomfort. By addressing the root cause of MGD, it can lead to long-lasting improvements in eye comfort.
:Individuals who wear contact lenses, particularly those with MGD-related dry eye, may experience enhanced comfort and longer wear times after LipiFlow® treatment. A stable tear film improves contact lens comfort by reducing dryness of the lenses.
Persistent dry eye symptoms, such as dryness, burning, grittiness, and discomfort, that do not significantly improve with the use of artificial tears or other over-the-counter treatments.
Rapid evaporation of tears, which may be indicated by intermittent or persistent blurred vision and sensitivity to environmental factors like wind, air conditioning, or low humidity. At your Ocular Surface Evaluation, your tear film evaporation will be assessed.
Physical examination by an eye care professional reveals blockages or clogging of the meibomian glands in the eyelids.
Frequent episodes of eye irritation, redness, and inflammation that affect the comfort and overall eye health.
If you are experiencing dry eye symptoms we recommend scheduling an Ocular Surface Evaluation to determine the root cause of your symptoms and to determine if you are a good candidate for LipiFlow®.
It's essential to note that LipiFlow® is not suitable for all individuals with dry eye, and the decision to undergo this treatment should be made after an Ocular Surface Evaluation, where your specific condition will be assessed and the most appropriate treatment options will be discussed.
